History of the Club

On December 13, 1951, member of the local radio, television, and newspaper media were guests of the Club at a preview inspection of the quarters. And, on Saturday, December 15, 1951, the Petroleum Club of Houston was formally opened for business - the business of providing comfortable, handsome Club quarters for the convenience, entertainment and enjoyment of its members and their guests.

After twelve years in the Rice Hotel and to meet the requirements of an increasing membership and the consequently greater demands for its services, the Club moved into its present quarters on the 43rd and 44th floors of the ExxonMobil Building. On the evening of February 16, 1963, President and Mrs. D. L. Connelly presided at a reception officially opening the new Club.

Again, in the short history of the Club, commendations were in order for an exceptional achievement. All those deserving plaudits are too numerous to mention, but certainly the results are evidence of unselfish effort by A. G. Gueymard, Chairman of the New Quarters Committee, along with Wilbur L. Ginther, Vice Chairman, George T. Barrow, F. W. Bell, Gaston C. Jones, R. B. Mitchell, Robert S. Moehlman and Marlin E. Sandlin who made up the Committee charged with the responsibility of building a Club "as new as tomorrow - as timeless as time."
